I can't send email , but I can receive it.

There is a possibility that your ISP is blocking port 25. Providers like AOL block this to prevent outside users from relaying bulk email off their servers . You should contact your provider to see if port 25 is blocked. Otherwise you have incorrectly entered details in your email client for the outgoing server ( SMTP ) for example make sure you are authenticating the outgoing mail server as described in other support database articles, or software on your machine like anti- virus , firewall, Norton, Symantec, etc is conflicting.
If port 25 is blocked, you could try using port 587 instead.

I'm sending an email to an external user with a large file attachment and they can't receive it. Why is that?

Several ISP 's and hosting companies place restrictions on the size of individual emails that can be received and sent though their servers , and although we do not place such a restriction, we have no control over such restrictions elsewhere.

As a workaround, customers are advised to create an FTP login via their eXtend control panel and upload the file attachment to that location. Customers can then simply email the recipient those FTP details, and they can then download the file via FTP using the login you created.

As another suggestion, some versions of Microsoft Outlook (and Microsoft Outlook Express) support an option "break apart messages larger than (some size)". Setting this to say 1MB is often appropriate, but this is only useful if you know the recipient also uses Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Outlook Express (in which case their mail client will re-combine the email ).

I can't receive email right now because it says the mailbox is locked?

Because of the way POP3 works, it's impossible to be logged in to the same mailbox with two sessions at the same time: to do so would cause some of your emails to disappear. So, to prevent this and ensure that your emails are delivered promptly, you'll see the message:

-ERR Mailbox still locked: you're checking mail too frequently.

...if you log in to your mailbox less than 2 minutes after your last login. If your mailbox is held open for more than two minutes and you try to check your mail again, you'll see the message:

-ERR Mailbox already locked.

If this second message persists (happens a number of times in a day) then you may want to contact customer services to see if there's some external factor affecting your mailbox access.

If you're getting the first message, all you need to do is set your email client to check mail less frequently.

Do ensure that you don't have two separate machines checking mail at the same time which is a common cause of this issue.

How do I increase the size of my mailbox ?

Mailboxes have a fixed size of 250 MB and cannot be increased.

Please note that as part of our server house keeping mailboxs which have not been checked for 100 days will be automatically deleted.

My E-mails are getting delayed - what is causing this?

If you experience delays in sending emails this may not be caused by Satyfree at all. It is always worth checking first with the destination ISP to establish whether they are experiencing any problems. This is because we have several mail servers which constantly try to forward emails . If an email fails to reach its destination then the next server will then try to deliver it and so on. Normally a failed attempt to deliver is due to a problem with the destination server that you have sent mail to.

Old mail is present but I can't see new emails but I know it's there?

The inbox has a 100mb limit. Once the limit has been exceeded new mail won't be visible therefore it is necessary to delete some items (or move them to other folders , where they will contribute towards the 1gb total limit), especially those with attachments.

SMTP /Sending mail issues with certain ISPs

Some ISPs block port 25 for the sending of email via SMTP . AOL and Orange are known to be amongst such ISPs , though there are also others. If this happens, setting SMTP to port 587 instead of port 25 will allow you to send email through us

Why have my mail/ folders have disappeared from webmail?

We offer two types of webmail (and desktop client) access - POP3 and IMAP4.

When you access your mail through POP3 on a desktop client, it is most often downloaded off the server onto your computer. If you don't want this to happen, many clients have an option to leave messages on the server , or you can consider using IMAP4.

If you create folders on your desktop client using POP3 , these won't be updated on webmail, as they are just created locally.

Additionally, you won't be able to access folders created in the POP3 mailbox in webmail when accessing through IMAP4, and vice-versa.

Unable to login to the webmail with a file permissions error?

/var/www-atmail/webmail-n/ html /english/msg/login_mailautherror. html is not readable, please check file permission!

This error is usually caused by an inconsistency with the temporary files created by your web browser . Simply enter your web browser 's options menu and follow the instructions to clear the cache/temporary internet files and cookies .

With Firefox: Tools -> Clear Private Data...
With Internet Explorer: Tools -> Delete Browsing History...

That usually resolve the problem, but if it doesn't, please raise a ticket to our support team so they can investigate this in further detail.

I use Freeserve/Wanadoo as my ISP and I'm having issues sending email . Why is that?

At the time of writing (note they may change this) Freeserve/Wanadoo use a transparent SMTP proxy on their network. As such, although you can still use mail.yourdomain.dom as the SMTP relay, you will not need to authenticate your SMTP . Simply un-check that option in your email client. Please note that wherever possible, we recommend you use your ISP 's SMTP server as doing so speeds up the delivery of messages.

My ISP is Telia. I cannot to connect to the outgoing mail server ?

Symptoms:

I've changed my ISP to Telia recently. Since then none of my accounts can send mail using Outlook . The error received is
Task 'mail.mydomain.com - Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : ' Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing ( SMTP ) e-mail server . If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider ( ISP ).'

Solution:

Telia requires that you use their relay of smtprelay1.telia.com as the outgoing server . You need to change SMTP server to smtprelay1.telia.com in email client.

Why do I get the message 550 IP in XBL SBL PBL RBL or SCBL when sending mail

If you receive either of the 4 messages above when trying to send email , it would appear that outgoing mail is being blocked because your IP address (the dynamic address used to identify your computer on the internet) is appearing in a blacklist.

You can see more information by
1) Finding your IP address from http ://www.whatsmyip.net/

If you are receiving either:
550 IP in XBL,
550 IP in SBL, or
550 IP in PBL,
2) Entering this IP address into the Spamhaus advisory page at:-
http ://www.spamhaus.org/lookup.lasso

If you are receiving either:
550 IP in SCBL or
550 IP in RBL
3) Entering this IP address into Spamcop at:- http ://www.spamcop.net/bl.shtml

It's appearing in this blacklist because either your computer, or a previous computer using the same dynamically assigned IP address, may have been infected by a trojan or virus , taking advantage of your computer to send spam.

Although this could just be a false alarm, caused by a previous computer on the same IP , we would recommend running a full virus , trojan and spyware scan on your computer - as well as ensuring you're using an active firewall.

Once you're sure your system is clean, there are details at the above link as to how you can remove yourself from the blacklist. Be aware though, if you are still affected, you will be relisted very quickly.

Why does my email bounce with '550 relay not permitted'?

This usually happens because the nameservers on the affected domain have been changed to make the domain work with our servers , but the domain itself has not been transferred in. There is a brief period when some remote mail servers direct mail according the the new MX records, but the local mailserver is still seeing the old MX records. This causes the mail server to reject mail until the old records expire. That usually happens within 24 hours. Domains which are fully transferred by-pass the MX record lookup and so are not affected by this problem.

This error could also be because you have not selected "My Outgoing Server Requires Authentication" or some variation on that depending on email client software being used in your settings. You can select it to use the same settings as the incoming mail server .

Why do I get a '550 Relay Not Permitted' error message when sending mail?

In order to send mail through the mail servers , the email client program must be configured to use SMTP Authentication. Common email clients include a tickbox in the account configuration with the label "This server requires authentication". That box should be ticked, otherwise look for a setting on the outgoing server settings that refers to authentication and set it to use the same username and password for the incoming server .

This error can also occur with some ISPs which block port 25 for SMTP . AOL is known to be such an ISP . If this happens, setting SMTP to port 587 will allow you to send email through us with AOL, for other ISPs we suggest contacting their technical support for advice or using their own outgoing SMTP server they would have provided you with.

I'm getting a 451 Message temporarily deferred message when sending to Yahoo or BT - What does this mean?

Yahoo have extremely strict criteria for accepting email and often defer e-mail if they think that it might be spam or if they are busy - they call this 'de-prioritising email '. Unfortunately they have a very poor system that often defers perfectly acceptable email . Yahoo also run the e-mail system for BT so you may get the message sending to BT email addresses too.

It is widely known in the industry that Yahoo have this poor system and we always recommend that you do not use Yahoo for email purposes because of the amount of email that they block or defer.

Please note that there is nothing that we or any other web hosting company can do about this. Our mail servers will keep trying to deliver your message and Yahoo should eventually accept it.
